Making new work
I’m currently developing and directing work across theatre, television and film.
After several years working primarily in screen production, I’m excited to be back in the theatre while continuing to develop original screen projects.
I’m particularly interested in work that combines strong storytelling, complex characters, distinctive voices and an unexpected point of view.
THEATRE
AUCKLAND THEATRE COMPANY
I return to Auckland Theatre Company in early 2027 to direct William Goldman’s stage adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery, the psychological thriller in which an acclaimed novelist finds himself at the mercy of his self-proclaimed number-one fan.
Starring Michael Hurst and Morgana O’Reilly, with Fasitoa Amosa, the production explores the increasingly dangerous territory between devotion and obsession, as a relationship built on the power of storytelling becomes a battle of wills.
The production brings me back together with two of my favourite creative collaborators, production designer Tracey Collins and lighting designer Bryan Caldwell, while marking my first collaboration with composer Arli Liberman.
Working with a tightly focused cast and creative team, we’ll bring to life the claustrophobic world of Stephen King’s story, balancing suspense and dark humour as the power shifts between three characters.

Janet & John by Ken Duncum
I return to Circa Theatre to direct Ken’s new play Janet & John, 26 years after directing Flipside there in 2021.
Gripping, suspenseful and emotional … three real-life characters face off in this tense new thriller of interwoven lives.
In his Baltimore home, controversial NZ-born sexologist John Money hosts old friend and celebrated novelist Janet Frame.
Money’s groundbreaking work on the ‘John/Joan’ case – in which a twin baby boy was raised as a girl after a botched circumcision – has made him the world’s leading gender theorist and proponent of surgical interventions on infants.
But the case he has represented for decades as a triumph is now exposed as a tragic disaster for the family involved.
Resentments explode and Janet is caught in the crossfire when David Reimer, supposedly Money’s greatest success, comes looking for revenge …

Alongside my theatre work, I’m developing original television and film projects with writers and production partners.
My current development work spans comedy, drama and genre, with a particular interest in distinctive premises, complex characters and stories that resist the obvious.
Developing original scripted series across comedy and drama, including projects with distinctive premises and strong genre identities.

Developing feature projects, including a deeply personal film exploring memory, family, loss and the ways stories emerge from our attempts to reconstruct the past.

Helping others make their best work
Alongside my own projects, I work with writers, producers and creative practitioners on story, creative strategy and the development of new work.
My experience spans writers’ rooms, script development, series development, theatre and production, and I particularly enjoy helping people find the more interesting possibilities in material that may not yet have revealed its full potential.
